I think that makes sense, but whenever there is a prerelease version, in 99% of cases, we have split the package identifiers into normal and prerelease given the absence of channels. The only way to solve this that I see is to create a manifest property to indicate "treat alpha chars on last version part as higher than no alpha chars" (really, a version quirking field for more than just that, but it will be the first one). The version that we have should match whatever is put into Add/Remove Programs. To be fair, for other applications, "a" might mean alpha, or the final "a-less" version number might be final. If you want to test disk speed I use crystal disk mark. Pre-release versions have a lower precedence than the associated normal version. For example, many of the newest generation of AMD processor mainboards-the AM4 socket-come. A pre-release version indicates that the version is unstable and might not satisfy the intended compatibility requirements as denoted by its associated normal version. Measure random 512KB, 4KB, 4KB (Queue Depth32) reads/writes speed. CrystalDiskMark Features: Measure sequential reads/writes speed. Currently, the program allows you to measure sequential and random read/write speeds. Pre-release versions have a lower precedence than the associated normal version. CrystalDiskMark is designed to test the performance of your hard drives quickly. Numeric identifiers MUST NOT include leading zeroes. Identifiers MUST comprise only ASCII alphanumerics and hyphens. Still its a reliable and direct benchmark. Unfortunately, version to version results are not comparable which limits the ability to extrapolate comparative data. NVMe M.2 SSD, hard drives, external drives, SD cards, thumb drives.if it connects to your PC, you can test it. Crystal DiskMark CrystalDIskMark has been the most actively updated disk benchmark amongst all the ones we use and is effectively the most reliable. I tested everything from my NVMe PCIe drive to my HDD SATA drive and I thought it might be interesting to share the results and get some commentary. A pre-release version MAY be denoted by appending a hyphen and a series of dot separated identifiers immediately following the patch version. CrystalDiskMark is the go to software for testing the speed of any storage device. I recently got an external SSD that has USB 3.1 and decided to run CrystalDiskMark tests against all the storage drives on my system. The generic version sorting that is implemented tries to hew as close to semver as possible, and this part applies to the "a" here (we just aren't strict about having a hyphen):
